CHAPTER EIGHT

Sunil ran past the bins and out into the car park. He dodged between the cars and hid behind a large white van. Looking back, he waited for Mr Shaykes to come out. No sign. Sunil breathed a sigh of relief.

Then he heard snuffling. Wiki had followed him out and, when he found him, started peeping like a policeman’s whistle. The back door burst open and Mr Shaykes appeared, carrying what looked to Sunil like a pool net and a broom. The kiwi peeped again, calling Mr Shaykes to Sunil’s hiding place. He had no choice but to run.

To Sunil’s horror, the kiwi sped after him. He was as fast as Sunil and kept peeping for Mr Shaykes to follow. Sunil sprinted out of the car park, down a small alley and back into his street where he bumped head first into Alex.

‘Sunil!’ she said in surprise, but when she saw Wiki her eyes widened.

‘It’s Mr Shaykes!’ Sunil panted. ‘He wants to turn me into milkshakes!’
